General information about the project area
The Head office of the organization is located in Guwahati. Guwahati is the major city of entire northeast India. The city lies on the south bank of river Brahmaputra at an altitude of 55 meters from the sea level, with the latitude and longitude being 26.10 45 (N) and 91.45 (E) respectively. This city is most important city in the whole northeastern region. It has the population of approximately fifteen lakh and has area of 216.79 sq. KM. Guwahati is the headquarter of Kamrup district and also the capital of Assam. Mighty Brahmaputra flowing through the city has added scenic beauty to the place. The city is surrounded by beautiful hills. In ancient India, the place was known as Pragjyotishpur and has rich legacy of great rulers, warriors, and scholars. The city has also been mentioned in the great epics Mahabharata and Kalika Puran. Guwahati is considered as the gateway to the northeastern region. The people of the region enjoy distinct reputation of rich cultural heritage. Sankardev born in the medieval period is considered as one of the most reputed scholars of the country. Assamese is the local language of the region, but people are also familiar with the national language Hindi. The official language of the region is English, Assamese and Hindi.
