GOLD has been identified as a ‘Learning Site’ for training of peer Educators and outreach workers from different IDU-TI Projects of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya. The program is implemented under Global Fund Round-9 HIV IDU Grant. Emanuel Hospital Association is the Principal Recipient and GOLD being the Sub Recipient for Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh. The objective of this training is to enhance the capacity of Peer educators and Outreach Workers of IDU TI to access and practice harm reduction methods with ultimate aim of preventing HIV/AIDS. This grant already completed the phase-I. The phase-II of the Project Hifazat has been implemented since October 2012 and the project ended during March 2016. The task entrusted upon us by the Global Fund was successfully accomplished.

The objective of this grant is to strengthen the capacity, reach quality of Harm Reduction services for Injecting Drug Users (IDUs) through our involvement in the institutions and individuals on behalf of the Country Coordinating Mechanism (CCM) and the National AIDS Control Organization (NACO) of the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare. The Project Hifazat has three staff and they are.

  • 1. Thirty-three of batches of Trainings were organized.
  • 2. Six hundred and twenty-five of persons were trained.
  • 3. Twenty-two Program Managers were trained in Induction Training.
  • 4. Twenty-one Counselors Trained in Induction Training.
  • 5. One hundred and fourteen Outreach Workers were trained in Induction and Refresher training.
  • 6. Four hundred and sixty eight Peer Educators were trained in Induction and refresher training.
