In this changing world, the injecting drugs users and female sex workers have been increasing in number and is recognized as vulnerable groups for acquiring and transmitting HIV/AIDS. The Assam State AIDS Control Society had entrusted GOLD a composite project for containment of HIV/AIDS among injecting drug users and female sex workers in Guwahati during 2006. A base line survey was carried out and approximately 450 injecting drugs users were identified and it was an alarming rate of great concern . HARM reduction procedures were the integral part of the project.
A great number of drug users and female workers were reached and motivated for behavioral changes to adopt risk free practices. Our organization also helped the clients with the treatment for sexually transmitted diseases and the beneficiaries were also given counseling by experts. Educators were appointed in order to spread awareness among the targeted groups.IEC materials and condoms were received from the Assam State AIDS Control Society. Suitable literature were also developed by the organization community awareness were generated through organized meetings, group discussion and health camps. Advocacy meetings were also organized to sensitize different stake holders about the issue.
Our organization helps the entire people living with HIV/AIDS and was provided proper care and support in order to enable them to live peaceful and productive lives.
