Guwahati is the largest city of northeast India and is considered as the gateway to the whole northeastern region. The city has witnessed tremendous growth during recent times. The rapid industrialization accompanied by erosion of human values has invited various problems that were not known before in the region. The region is also infested with militancy with deterioration law and order. There is increase trend of trafficking of women for prostitution and other form of modern slavery. Dowry which was not known to the Assamese people has gained ground followed by dowry related crimes. The use of alcohol has increased tremendously with simultaneous rise of domestic violence. The organization is already catering its services to few special categories of persons like trafficked survivors, drug users, and unmarried mothers. These sections have their specific problems and have to be dealt as special categories. The organization has been working through this Family Counseling Centre for the services of such special categories of persons.
It is noted that the women who face domestic violence when attempted to seek justice under the criminal law, frequently ends up getting victimized .In order to obtain some justice like divorce, custody of children and other matrimonial remedies under the civil law she tries civil courts where the procedure are lengthy and the remedies are delayed.
The Mobile Unit of the counseling centre is offering services to the physically handicapped persons who cannot attend the static family counseling centre. This category mostly involves aged persons and physically disabled. They have innumerable problems and have to suffer these problems in silence without any remedy. This Integrated Family Counseling Centre has a mobile unit which will not only deliver counseling at door steps but will also offer other allied services like medical care and legal aid to the beneficiaries.
This Family Counseling Centre is innovative for following reasons-

Objectives of the Family Counseling Centre
The objective of the Family Counseling Centers is to provide preventive and rehabilitative services to women and families through crisis intervention and systematic counseling. The counseling and other allied services will be also offered to those who cannot attend the Family Counseling Centre for various reasons. The centre also creates awareness and mobilizes public opinion on social issues affecting status of women.
