The natural hazards include Earthquake, Flood, Landslide, Erosion, Cyclone and Tsunami. Scientists have already expressed their opinion that nobody can forecast at what time and when earthquake will take place. So it is essential that to comfort with the disaster arising out of earthquake, the organization must remain alert to meet eventually round the clock, so in case of Flood, Landslide, Cyclone, Tsunami and other major accidents.

During last 50 years, devastating earthquake and flood took place in the state. There was huge loss of human and cattle life and in flood affected areas institutions providing health services were badly damaged and regular services were disrupted, causing immense difficulties to the people of the areas.

The earthquake of 1950 also caused extensive damages, especially in Upper Assam region. The state had witnessed disaster of more than 8 Richter in every 50 years and the last one occurred in 1950. The state very fearfully doubts that a serious earthquake may occur in anytime from now. However flood has become a regular perennial feature claiming huge toll of lives and property. The city of Guwahati also suffer severe flash flood during monsoon causing grave miseries and inconvenience to the the citizens of the society.

The organization has realized that there is no any serious preparedness in the state to mitigate any kind of disaster that may occur in anytime or any place. Some of the activities that the organisation has taken in recent past are

  • Pre disaster.
  • Awareness.
  • Training and capacity buildings.
  • Procurement of equipments.
  • Provide expertise in preparing “Disaster Management Plan’ by different agencies.

During the DISASTER

(Rescue and Relief) essential services and others :
  • Activate the Disaster Management Plan .
  • Set up Control Room with 24 x 7 services in the NGO office.
  • Deployments of Responders to the site of occurrence, -Triage, Rescue & Transportation.
  • Supply medicines and relief materials.
  • Extend medical care to the affected areas.
  • Facilitate safe drinking water.
  • Coordination with governmental and non-governmental organistions.

POST DISASTAR

  • The NGO will undertake activities to prevent outbreak of epidemics and other infectious diseases. GOLD will also co-operative with other allied Department so as to alleviate sufferings of people.
  • Assist the community for early recovery of the community from damages and effects of disaster.
